HCC Helps Bring Sports & Wellness Complex to Georgia College

Georgia College’s new 101,000 square foot facility offers a new total “wellness” approach to students and faculty of the university and contains all sorts of exercise and recreational areas. It also serves as home to student health services, counseling and health sciences classes. The facility presents a dramatic getaway to the west campus, provides much-needed recreations, wellness activities support services spaces to meet the demands of an increasing student population.

Harrison Contracting Company partnered with Garbutt Construction and provided expert carpentry and specialty trim for the $28.2M Wellness Center. The new facility was conceived out of necessity as the older one had been housed in a refurbished train depot, which the growing university had long since outgrown.

The president of Georgia College’s Student Government Association, Evan Karanovich, researched and examined wellness centers around the state and was able to determine which traits were necessary for Georgia College’s new facility. The new facility not only meets their current needs but will allow the intramural and club programs to expand for years to come.

Harrison Contracting’s Vice President, Rob Stephenson attended this year’s Community Building Invitational in Savannah, GA with Home Depot. This program is in place to help rebuild and repair homes and facilities in communities all over the country. Together with HCC, Home Depot, and other vendors, they were able raise over 1.1 million dollars for the cause. Along with the donations, came hard work from over 230+ volunteers working together to repair and refurbish 8 houses and 1 playground. See pictures at this link. We have expanded our service area with Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. We have been performing general maintenance and remodel work with this customer in the Atlanta area for nearly two years. The re-fresh/remodel of their location in Charlotte, NC was completed in September with scopes ranging from floor cleaning, painting, to ceiling tile replacement and FRP. We will be expanding our service area with Grainger to FL, GA, SC, and NC by the end of 2010.

Willie Harrison

Harrison Contracting is sad to announce the passing of longtime employee Willie Harrison.

Willie was a loyal and dedicated employee for over 9 years and will be greatly missed. He never met a stranger and was a valued friend to those fortunate enough to know him. He always had a smile and he shared it with everyone he met.

OFFICE DEPOT

HCC provides maintenance services to Office Depot nationwide. We are currently providing painting services in California, Oregon, the Southwest, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, and Canadian markets.

We are involved in a sign re-imaging project that started late last year. This project involves removal of all tag line signs from the building, patching, and repainting to make the old sign location blend seamlessly into the existing color and finish scheme of the building. We will be working on sign projects as far north as Green Bay, WI and Layton, UT all the way south to Texas and Florida.

Other projects range from restroom remodels in the North Carolina market to a disaster recovery project at a Nashville store flooded by the recent heavy rains in Tennessee.

We are holding our Annual Safety Day tomorrow at our Villa Rica location. It's a day packed full of safety training. It will include: demonstrations, safety tips, best practices, certifications, and do's and don'ts for our employees.

Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse - Oxford, AL

We just completed painting the Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse in Oxford, AL. This project also included a 175 ft. tall road front sign. We rented a crane for use while painting the sign. It was pretty interesting watching the sign being painted.

AutoZone Annual SPring Meeting 2010

We attended AutoZone’s Annual Spring Meeting last week for Maintenance and Set-Up. Harrison Contracting was represented by Chris Murphy and Rob Stephenson. At our trade show booth, we were able to interact with the Maintenance Managers and Supervisors throughout the country and learn more about their needs. We look forward to working directly with AutoZone and their team to help maintain and improve their facilities for years to come.

Harrison Contracting and Garbutt Construction restoring Hardman Farm...

Bill Griffin, Foreman with Harrison contracting and John Scott, Superintendent with Garbutt Construction are managing the restoration project that began in February of 2009 and is projected to be completed in Spring of 2010. Harrison Contracting was contracted to do painting and carpentry to restore the Farmhouse to it's original state.

A little about Hardman Farm...

Fundraising is continuing for preservation of the historic Hardman Farm, located in the Nacoochee Valley of White County. The project is the focus of many preservation partners including The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, The Trust for Public Land, The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, The North Georgia Community Foundation, the Hardman Family, and numerous individuals. The plan is to offer visitors a first-hand look and a better understanding of state history and the mountain region by visiting the Hardman Farm. The Farm property includes 173 acres of land, an Italianate farmhouse, and 20 buildings, whose history dates back to 1870. The property is located in the heart of the Nacoochee Valley. Governor Lamartine Hardman's family agreed to donate their farm and valley land to the State of Georgia on the condition that it be permanently protected and managed for educational purposes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6mebu75T84

Celebrating 15 Years

   Harrison Contracting Co., Inc. is proudly celebrating 15 Years of Excellence in 2010. While this year marks our 15th anniversary, that only tells half of the story. The foundation of this company was laid more than 30 years ago by Bill’s father, Deryl Harrison. Deryl started his business as a small industrial painting contractor specializing in feed and flour mills. Utmost value was placed on building a quality reputation based on fairness and customer satisfaction.
    The focus on industrial painting began to change in the early 90s largely in part due to the new retail construction boom. It was also during this time that Deryl’s son, Bill, was becoming more and more involved in the daily operation of the business.
    In 1995, HCC completed the incorporation process and also signed it’s first new construction contract - a Publix Supermarket. Since then we have enjoyed much progress including the addition of our carpentry division in 1997, the opening of offices in Destin in 2002, Savannah in 2008 and Tampa in 2009.
    Recognizing that there were changes on the horizon, we began exploring the maintenance marketplace as a complement to new construction. Today, servicing both new construction and maintenance customers, our team continually strives to provide the quality, integrity, and performance that is expected and deserved.

Many things have changed over the years but our commitment to the values that were so important to Deryl 30 years ago have remained the same.

Clorox Facility Maintenance

The Forest Park Clorox Facility renovation is nearing it's end. HCC partnered with Specialty Mechanical to update the main office as well as an exterior face lift in anticipation of the board of directors meeting that will be taking place on site soon.
